Drug Uses: Tramadol is used to relieve moderately severe to moderate pain. It may also be used to treat pain caused by chronic conditions such as cancer or joint pain. It may also be prescribed to treat pain after surgery. Tramadol works by lowering the brain's perception and response to pain. It also decreases the size or magnitude of the pain signal that is passed from one nerve to another. This prescription drug medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your physician or pharmacist for more information.

How Taken: Tramadol is a tablet and is taken orally. It usually is taken every 4 to 6 hours as needed. It can be taken with or without food. It is important to follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and do ask your physician or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand.
